Hernan Valencia

Born in Lima, Peru. Hernan was fascinated by visual aesthetics. As a child, he entered many different art venues such as theater and dance as well as paint. Hernan always had a knack for the human form as he did portraits of people around his neighborhood while growing up. After high school, he enrolled at Santa Rosa Junior College in California where he learned about graphic design as a career.

In 1991, He transferred to San Jose State University University where he was schooled in all things art and design. He was one of the very few undergraduates to submit a portfolio for both the school of design and the school of illustration successfully. San Jose State University allowed Hernan to participate in a satellite program conducted via virtual classroom with Warner Bros. Animation Studios where he underwent tutoring by professionals in traditional animation and figure drawings. Hernan successfully worked as an internship for Spotlight Studios doing animation work as well as conceptual artwork. Hernan also met with many industry professionals regarding opportunities with Disney and Hallmark and attended many workshops and demonstrations. He was privileged to take a few courses under the tutelage of renowned animator Sheldon Borenstein. After leaving SJSU, Hernan worked as a partner with the now defunct The Thought Farm. A Design Firm alongside Chris Elliman and Tim Wilson of San Jose. Various clients included Santa Clara County City Council, SoFA Arts Street Festival, Ajax nightclub, Emprise Marketing and many others

In 2003, Hernan made a move to Las Vegas. Revered as a mecca for all things in the entertainment industry, Hernan has been discovering what this famous city has to offer his visual and conceptual repertoire. Following numerous freelance contracts, Hernan worked with clients such as Starbucks, FedEx, Clark County School District as well as successful smaller clients that ranged from music promotion, to modeling showcases, to entertainment promotions. In 2007, Hernan partnered up with LIT LLC as their Visual and Communication Director. He also worked as the Graphic Dept Manager for MDV Entertainment in Las Vegas as well. Other Ventures included a brief stay at Unicahome. Creative Consulting for Politica Magazine/Alien Tequila, Pressurehead and The Kiln. Hernan is always looking for new opportunities in the multimedia spectrum as well as consulting on branding and visual concept strategies. He was a print and web designer for The Selling Source and Vantex Media Group in Las Vegas and was afforded new challenges in the realm of web design. Hernan acquired new skills in User Interface and User Experience as well as a working knowledge of html/css/php.
